Huh?

That is the reaction I have gotten when I mentioned the name I had chosen for my first real attempt at blogging.  I figured my first post should be an explanation of the title and a bit about my plans for my little corner of Blogland!
I was fortunate enough to have been raised in the State of Maine surrounded by a family whose roots grow deep in the New England soil. I grew up among some of the best cooks on the Coast of Maine and some of the best storytellers too. This is my way of remembering and preserving some of my favorite memories, recipes and Down East lore with my daughters and any of you who wish to visit.
My Grandmother Grace Alexander Coffin was the inspiration for the title of this blog.  She was a very special woman and you will learn more about her as we journey together.
Grammie, as we called her, was a wonderful cook and her homemade doughnuts were a favorite of family and friends. This was made more than clear one summer day as we held a Yard Sale at Grammie's house.  We had a few people stop and browse our priceless treasures, but it was a hot summer day and we were hoping for more of a turnout.
While the rest of the family was outside, Grammie decided to make some doughnuts for us to snack on. She got out her electric frypan and soon the aroma of these beauties filled the air. It wasn't long before word got around and soon we had people dropping by left and right because Grace Is Makin' Doughnuts!  My Mom convinced her to bag some up and sell them at the yard sale. Grammie made more than we did I think, lol.
I remember this day for many reasons, one of the most important being, I think this was the day that I realized that we weren't the only ones who knew that Grammie was special. Grammie is no longer here with us but I like to think that somewhere on the other side there is a line of people waiting patiently because...Grace is Makin' Doughnuts!
